La Union
The province of La Union is a part of the Ilocos Region (Region I) in Luzon. It has a total area of 1,493.1 km², and is bordered by the provinces of Ilocos Sur in the north, Benguet in the east, and Pangasinan in the south.
Every town and city of La Union houses several structures and places showcasing our historical, cultural and religious legacy. For one, San Fernando—the province’s capital— is home to Ma-Cho Temple, Fil-Chinese Pagoda, Museo de La Union, Freedom Park, and the Battle of San Fernando Marker. The town of Luna houses the pilgrimage shrine of Our Lady of Namacpacan. Agoo houses Museo Iloko and Agoo Basilica, the church in which an image of Our Lady of Charity is kept.
The Marcoses also left some trademarks in this province. Among these are the Imelda Park and the infamous Marcos Park which is located along the Marcos Highway. Said park was once marked by an enormous concrete bust of Ferdinand Marcos, but portions of this bust were blown up during the later part of 2002.
Aside from man-made edifices, La Union also has a wide array of scenic spots and nature getaway. The west part of La Union is bordered by the South China Sea. As such, the province prides itself with excellent surfing beaches along this body of water. The towns of Baccuit, Darigayos-Paraoir, Paringao and San Juan boast of breath-taking beaches and coral reefs. San Fernando likewise houses a Botanical and Zoological Garden which features various flora and fauna found in La Union.
